Both Ariel and Umbrial where discovered by W. Lassell in 1851. Arial and Umbriel are about the same size with Umbrial being about 780 miles or 1170 kilometers in size. Also both are considered to be what are called icy-moons, meaning they are made up of frozen ice. Umbriel has a bland, nondescript surface. While Ariel like so many other icy moons, has grooves similar to those found on Ganymede. These grooves extend over its surface for many miles or kilometers. Umbriel is the third farthest major moon from Uranus, while Arial is the fourth farthest moon from Uranus.
