THE SUN

Click on the last image of the sun on this page to return to exploring our solar system.

The sun is the center of our solar system and without it no life would exist on the planet Earth.

All the planets in our solar system circle the sun, or orbit as scientist call it. Here are several images of the sun in our solar system taken with special filters.

Of course the sun is a star. But did you know that it is just an average size star.

This image shows several solar flares. They are seen as dark spots. That is because solar flares although tremendously hot and bright are not as cool and bright as the rest of the surface of the sun.

Of course you should never look directly at the sun for very long. And you should never, ever look at it though a telescope. If you do, you probably will go blind.
